本曲講述的是一戰德國的風暴突擊隊(德文：Sturmtruup)，為德軍於第一次世界大戰後其所成立的一種特殊部隊。當時的塹壕戰使得常規步兵戰術難以發揮作用，因此德軍構思出了一種新戰法：先對敵軍陣地施以集中並猛烈的砲擊，接著突擊步兵快速推進並撕開防線缺口，達成摧毀敵方戰線的目的。此種戰術即是閃電戰的原型，並被之後二戰的納粹德國充分運用。
