World-famous Hong Kong actor, choreographer, filmmaker, comedian, director, and producer Jackie Chan tweeted about the tragedy.
“This kind of things always happen around the world. It happened to HK’s people, the whole HK is talking about it. Its really sad,” said he, and added, “If they (the police) killed the guy sooner, they will say why not negotiate first? If they negotiate first, they ask why not kill the guy sooner?” Then he gave a kind of message to Hong Kongites: “Hong Kong was built by a lot of different people . . . don’t worry! We do not hate!” He added an exhortation against violence: “We already have so many natural disasters . . .
typhoons, tsunami, everything. Humans should be united and not kill or hate each other.”
The actor’s tweets of course cheered Malacañang.
But the reaction of Hong Kong bloggers and tweeters was violently negative. They called Jackie names.
Some said he was not a real HK native anyway (as if most HK people were not from somewhere else).
Others asked him to go away since he does not understand how painful the tragedy has been to the HK SAR’s people.
Filipinos must be careful. The HK police will be able to protect Filipinos from attacks in public. But how about those done against them in the privacy of the homes they are employed in as servants?
