本週在 iLife Technologies 起訴任天堂美國公司專利侵權一案中，達拉斯陪審團判決任天堂應當向 iLife 賠償 1000 萬美元。

iLife 於 2013 年對任天堂提起訴訟，稱任天堂在開發體感控制設備 Wii Remote 的過程中使用了該公司的技術。

iLife 開發的專利技術主要是用於監控老年人跌倒、嬰兒意外等綜合用途。該公司尋求 1.44 億美元的損失賠償，即對訴訟提起之前銷售的 3600 萬台 Wii 主機，每台索取 4 美元的賠償。該公司同時還要求任天堂停止使用這項技術。

任天堂則表示，該公司沒有侵犯這些專利權，且這些專利的撰寫方式不當，因此是無效的。

除了起訴任天堂之外，iLife 也對其他一些公司提起了訴訟，包括 Fitbit 和 Under Armour。

不過，後兩起訴訟已經撤銷，雙方可能達成了庭外和解。根據《滾石》雜誌的報導，任天堂計劃對這項判決繼續提出上訴。

BY HOPE CORRIGAN After suing Nintendo over the motion-sensing accelerometers used for Wii Remotes, iLife has been awarded $10 million by a Texas Jury.

Nintendo has provided a statement explaining "On Aug. 31, 2017, a jury in Texas found that certain Wii and Wii U video game systems and software bundles infringed a patent belonging to iLife Technologies Inc. related to detecting if a person has fallen down.

"The jury awarded iLife $10 million in damages. Nintendo disagrees with the decision, as Nintendo does not infringe iLife’s patent and the patent is invalid. Nintendo looks forward to raising those issues with the district court and with the court of appeals."

This award is significantly less than what iLife was originally seeking back when the case was raised nearly four years ago. Dallas law firm Munk Wilson Mandala originally filed a $144 million infringement case, on behalf of the company which used the motion sensing technology to monitor infants and the elderly.

Nintendo is no stranger to these lawsuits. Earlier this year Nintendo was also targeted by accessory company Gamevice which believed the Switch was too similar to its Android gaming tablet.

Additionally, iLife is not the first company to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Nintendo regarding its Wii Remotes. Back in 2014 Nintendo won a similar case in federal court against UltimatePointer LLC.

At the time Nintendo stated that they would "vigorously defend its innovations against patent lawsuits," and it looks like the company intends to hold fast to this promise.
