So Saimoe 2012 finally comes to an end after a decent finale with Toki winning it by 20 votes, which is a proof of how competitive it was, considering that she’s being curb-stomping her opponents all this while. Funnily enough, the voting patterns in this match was completely opposite of what each contestant was expected to do in order to seize the advantange – Kuro actually beating Toki in the final rush, but it was the champion who built up her lead steadily throughout the day instead of the runner-up. Kuro supporters are probably stinging from this defeat, but the Dragon Lord can be proud that she was able to make this a close contest. As for Toki, a well-deserved victory, and she can now take her spot in the history books.
A quick-wrap on the tourney as a whole: well, I predicted a complete Saki domination from the very beginning, and it turned out that way. In a way, that’s disappointing because there’s no real surprises and many Saimoe followers (even the hardcore ones) have indeed lost interest in this after two consecutive years of mono-series domination. Not to blame the Saki faction though, they’ve played their cards right and done superbly, and they do deserve something after coming so close in their previous two tournament appearances. Vote restrictions are forever increasing, and no one (except Toki) knows whether the trend will be reversed after appalling numbers in this year’s tourney.
In any case, it has still been a blast covering yet another edition of this tournament. As usual, here’s the credits list:
-2ch for organizing the tournament, whether we like it or not
-frustra for being a BASED SHISHOU as always (hopefully he regains motivation again)
-ando for once again hosting the vote tracker
-chaosprophet for his work on translations, especially during the prelims
-Saimoe Anon from animesaimoe.org for being awesome as always with the coverage, news and posters
-Saimoe blogging comrades for their insights. You know who you are, and it’s always nice to see more ppl blogging about the tourney
-Readers and participants of the Fantasy game Thanks for your patronage as always!
And I’ll leave you guys with the same questions as always:
- Best match(es) of the tourney?
- Surprises? Disappointments?
- How did your favorites fare?
- Suggestions? Queries?
My personal responses are here if you’re interested in reading them.
Well then, that’s it! Not sure if there’s any future plans from now to the next tourney, but we’ll keep you informed if there’s any. Bye for now!
